There had better be chocolate inside

It’s time to open my Short Story Advent Calendar! So literary it even has a hashtag: #ssac2015.

Paris

I’ve only been to France once but it’s one of those places that left a mark on me. This is probably my favorite photo from that trip. I think it speaks to the moment and all those other moments in the country’s history and future.

Get your weird on

A reminder that I’ll be moderating the Weird Fiction session tonight at the Vancouver Writers Fest. By moderating I mean I’ll be trying to keep the Jeff VanderMeer, Kelly Link, Robert Wiersema and Neil Smith trapped in their human forms. Trust me, you don’t want to see them when they transform.
Check out the piece I wrote about the Writers Fest for The Province or listen to my interview with artistic director Hal Wake about this year’s festivities.

Reimagine your world at the Vancouver Writers Fest

writersfest

I’ve posted a piece about the Vancouver Writers Fest over at The Province. I’ll be moderating the Weird Fiction session starring Jeff VanderMeer, Kelly Link, Neil Smith and Robert J. Wiersema, and I’m already excitedly making notes. There are lots of other great panels — this year’s fest has more than 100 writers. In my latest Book Rogues podcast for The Province, I talk to VWF artistic director Hal Wake about the festivities.

Set sail for the apocalypse

ChiZine recently revealed the cover for my new Cross novel, The Apocalypse Ark. I love all the covers of the Cross books, but this may be my favourite so far. I mean, tentacles rising from the mysteries of the deep!

You may also be wondering what The Apocalypse Ark is about. Fear not — ChiZine has also revealed the secret plot of my most crazed Cross book yet! Click through to learn the dark secrets of the ark.

(Warning: Clicking the link may result in madness, night sweats, possession by the Great Old Ones and a deep dissatisfaction with the Christmas season because The Apocalypse Ark is not on sale until spring.)

Why Frankenstein?

I interviewed Ian Weir for a new Book Rogues podcast yesterday. His novel Will Starling just made the shortlist for Canada’s Sunburst Award. I love talking to Ian as much as I love reading his fantastic books! The podcast will be up shortly.

Congrats to Chris Humphreys for his Arthur Ellis win

Congrats to B.C. writer C.C. Humphreys, who just won the 2015 Arthur Ellis Award for his historical thriller, Plague. I loved the book and I think Humphreys is great — he’s an amazingly talented writer and actor, and a pretty cool person as well! Check out my Province article “B.C.’s bookish blades” if you want more info.

Booookkkkksssss

bookrogues_post

I’ve got a new podcast up at the Book Rogues, where I talk to Adam Lewis Schroeder about discovering he had a brain tumour while writing a zombie novel. It’s like something out of a book! Also, Adam lays down a mean zombie rap.
